Golf: Leseur & Burgess Win Bermuda Match Play The Bermuda Match Play Championships concluded at Port Royal Golf Course with Kenny Leseur winning the Men’s Championship title and Tracy Burgess claiming the Ladies title, both earning invitations to the 2025 North & South Championship at Pinehurst. A spokesperson said, “The Bermuda Match Play Championships concluded today at the Port Royal Golf Course. Kenny Leseur added to his Stroke Play Championship with a 3 & 2 win over James Godwin in the final to capture the Men’s Championship Match Play title. “In the semifinals, Leseur was 4 up over Oliver Betschart when play was suspended at the 12th hole yesterday due to the weather conditions. Play resumed at 8:00am on Sunday and Betschart fought back to get himself back into the match. “However, Leseur held his composure and executed an excellent approach on the 18th hole to set himself up for a 2-putt par to close out the match at 1 up. In the other semifinal, James Godwin and Damian Palanyandi were all square after 9 holes when play was suspended. Unfortunately, Palanyandi was forced to withdraw due to injury which advanced Godwin to the final. “The final, Leseur birdied the 9th to even the match at all square after 9 holes. This shifted the momentum as Leseur pared the 10th and Godwin bogeyed to put Leseur 1 up going to the 11th Hole. Leseur went on to win the 12th and 14th holes to give him a 3-hole lead with 4 holes to play. They halved the 15th and 16th to give Leseur the win with 2 holes to play. “The Ladies played in a 4-player match play round robin format with Tracy Burgess securing the title as she amassed a 3-win 0-loss record. Morgan Lightbourne was runner up with a 2-win, 1-loss record followed by Darina Betschart in 3rd and Katrin Burnie in the 4th spot. “In the Men’s First Flight Division, Marcelos Thomas completed the head-to-head match play round robin format with a 3-win o-loss record as he defeated Mackih McGowan in the rubber match on the 17th hole to win 2 & 1. “Leseur and Burgess have secured an exempted invitation to compete in the prestigious 2025 North & South Championship at Pinehurst on June 22-28th, 2025.” Category: All, Sports
