A group of cluster farmers in Kwara State under the aegis of the Millennium United Rural Farmers Foundation has commended the efforts of the state government aimed at revitalising agriculture and deepening rural development.
A statement by the farmers, through their national president, Alhaji Aremu Alawaye on Sunday noted that such government efforts, made through the provision of infrastructure and enabling environment for the rural farmers and dwellers have helped to bolster a sustainable economic growth and development.
The group, which lauded government’s efforts in the distribution of agricultural inputs in 2024 through the NAGS-AP, identified other initiatives provided to the farmers’ cluster groups in Kaiama, Baruten, Moro, Asa, Edu, Patigi, and Ifelodun local government areas have helped to increase in crop yield.
“We also commend government for supporting us with tractors, extension services and facilitation of private investments to Kwara state,” Alawaye said, adding that two investors, Amo Byng and Gbemtam, were attracted for outgrowing of Soyabeans in Kwara state to boost the rural development and food security.
“However, while commending the government for its 2024 investments and achievements in agricultural and rural development, the group urged the government to double its investments in 2025 to further accelerate agricultural and rural development for a sustainable economic growth and development.
“These investments will drive and bolster efficient farming, output, food security, job creation and employment opportunities for our teeming youth and women, improved commercial and economic activities through the agricultural value chain,” he said.
The group also said that the national coordinator and secretary, Mr. Akeem Adio, commended the state commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Mrs. Oloruntoyosi Thomas for her contributions to the revitalisation of agriculture and rural development.
“She leads the ministry very well and we are proud of her humility, integrity, hardwork, smartwork and exceptional commitment to productivity and excellence.
“She facilitated a lot of support services from federal government, state government, international partners and private investors to accelerate agricultural and rural development in the state, adding, she has written her name in gold in the record of the Ministry as a successful administrator.”
The foundation also praised the clusters at Apatalaje, Gbajibo, Moshe-Gbofa, Gwasorro, Idi Apa, and commodity associations; AFAN, FACAN and particularly the Nigerian Soybeans Association for their dedication to agricultural development.
