Greg Taylor told why Celtic deal needs to get done as Daizen Maeda secret shared by teammates – Parkhead news bulletin

Greg Taylor has been told why he should commit his future to Celtic and make a deal happen. Brendan Rodgers has often spoke of his desire to see the left-back remain at Parkhead beyond the summer with his contract ticking down and quickly heading towards an end. He was praised for his performance in the 5-1 over his former club Kilmarnock and he retained his spot in the XI to face St Johnstone at Hampden in another thumping win to book a return to face Aberdeen in the Scottish Cup Final. Taylor is weighing up his next step with former pro Stephen McGInn aware it is his likely his last big contract. So an financial element will come into his thinking but there is also no reason for him why Taylor and in-bound Kieran Tierney can't play together. He also believes the Arsenal full-back - returning to his boyhood club - will get more protection from boss Rodgers than skipper Callum McGregor in terms of playing every single minute of every single game when available. He told the Scottish Football Podcast : "I think everything in terms of weighing up the games you are going to play, financially it will be your last big contract. "He's off the back of playing a lot of games consecutively, he's been great for Celtic. Always available, reliable and not a lot of injuries. So he has got to do right by him first and foremost. "You'd also be aware you are at a massive club and the manager is going to sign good players. You aren't going to be competing against maybe a [Diego] Laxalt or [Alexandro] Bernabei. There is going to be Jeffrey Schlupp's and Kieran Tierney every now and then. The fight gets harder to stay at big clubs that is why you respect guys like Callum McGregor who have done it for so long. "And also I would point to the fact that Kieran Tierney is not going to be Callum McGregor. If Brendan Rodgers is able to leave him out at times or get him off at half-time or 60 minutes he will do it to protect him. "I think there is a lot of games there for Greg Taylor. I think at times they can play together. There is no reason for likes of an Atalanta, Borussia Dortmund of Bayern Munich away that they both can't play down the same side. "If it was me, Greg Taylor and if it was Celtic, I would want to make the deal happen." Meanwhile, Stephen Robinson has revealed what some Celtic players told him about Daizen Maeda. The Japan international is having a stunning campaign for the Hoops and added another two goals to his tally in the weekend Scottish Cup hammering of St Johnstone to take his total in all competitions to 33 strikes. Maeda is widely praised for his non-stop work effort both off and all on the ball and the St Mirren boss is one of those on that list of fans admitting he'd love to have him in his team and revealed what he shouts to him on the touchline. He told PLZ Soccer : “I’d love to have him. When he’s next to me during the game, I’m like, you must be tired, come on, it’s time to come off. “But then they bring [Nicolas] Kuhn on instead and I’m like, ‘Oh no, here we go’. But no, he must be an absolute dream. “I spoke to a couple of Celtic players who had done a morning session with him and they said like, he just keeps running, he doesn’t breathe, he doesn’t say a lot, he just smiles. I think he’s just your dream player.” Elsewhere, Oliver Burke is set to become the first Scot to play for Union Berlin after completing a medical to make a shock switch in the Bundesliga. The Werder Bremen striker was offered contract extensions twice by the club this month after netting three goals in his last three games. But he turned them down and has agreed to sign for Union Berlin at the end of the season. The 28-year-old Scotland international, who won the last of his 13 caps five years ago, underwent a medical in the German capital this week and has agreed to make the surprise move. Union have had a disappointing season and are in mid-table in the German top flight, after qualifying for the Champions League the previous campaign. They have never had a Scot in their side, although they do have former Celtic defender Josip Juranovic in their ranks. Burke was once the most expensive Scottish player ever when he first exploded on the scene with Nottingham Forest and won a £13 million move to RB Leipzig in 2016. He also spent a six month loan at Celtic in 2019.
