A talented Grimsby teenager has been selected from karate athletes across the country to represent England in the Karate Senior European Championships.
William Jervis, 17, who studies at the Grimsby Institute, is "so proud of himself" after he was chosen to travel to Yerevan in Armenia in May to compete in the 'Para Kata' category of the championships, hosted by the World Karate Federation.
Kata is a choreographed pattern of movements and techniques, representing a fight whilst maintaining perfect form. William will compete in the Para category, a discipline within karate for athletes with disabilities.
Because only one person from England is chosen to represent the country in this category, William's achievement is a monumental one.
He said: “I am so proud of myself for being selected to represent England. I can’t wait to go to the Senior European Championships, and I’m going to smash it out of the park."
Sally Wright, Inclusion Manager at the Grimsby Institute, said: “The Grimsby Institute is immensely proud of William and wishes him the best of luck on the international stage. We are confident that he will make both the Grimsby Institute and the country proud.
”This prestigious event will be the perfect stage for William to showcase his dedication, hard work, and passion for karate."
