Grinds school backed by famous faces including Brian O'Driscoll loses hundreds of thousands

It is a bad day to be Brian O'Driscoll, or Caelan Dorris, for that matter. Being rugby legends isn't the only thing the pair have in common, as they also happen to have invested in a grinds school that has made a substantial loss. The Ireland players, past and present, both backed an online secondary school grinds company called Grinds 360. However, the business has made a €417,844 loss in its first 13 months, according to the Independent. BOD owns 3,000 A shares and 3,000 B non-voting shares in Grinds 360, through his ODM and Promotions company, meaning he has a 6.88% shareholding in the business. Meanwhile, Caelan Dorris owns 345 shares, just under 0.45% of issued shares. His Leinster teammate, Jordan Lamour, who recently got engaged, owns 289 shares. The rugby stars aren't the only famous faces backing the company either. Former Kilkenny hurler Walter Walsh, who teaches agricultural science on the platform, owns 999 shares, just over 1.1% of the issued shares in Grinds 360. Love/Hate actor Peter Coonan is also involved, as the actor and his solicitor brother Michael own 1,924 non-voting B ordinary shares through their Grant Lodge Holdings company. BOD even appeared in clips supporting the online platform, comparing doing grinds to playing rugby. 'We’re all working on different levels of talent, different levels of intelligence, but the important thing is about turning up, making sure that there’s a consistency to your performance,' he said in the video. While it should be noted that it isn't unusual for a start-up to make losses in its first year, it is certainly not ideal news for these famous faces to wake up to!
