In a major milestone for women’s cricket and regional sport, Guyana is set to host the entire 2025 edition of the Massy Women’s Caribbean Premier League (WCPL) for the first time in the tournament’s four-year history.
Kicking off on Saturday, September 6 at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence, the competition will feature seven high-intensity matches among three franchises: the home team Guyana Amazon Warriors, defending champions Barbados Royals, and Trinbago Knight Riders.
The tournament will conclude with a grand finale on Wednesday, September 17.
The official launch was held at Massy Distribution’s Montrose, East Coast Demerara (ECD) location, where key stakeholders emphasized the importance of this moment not only for sport, but also for gender equality and national pride.
Massy Guyana Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Troy Beharry described the occasion as more than just a sporting event, saying, “This isn’t just a cricketing milestone—it’s a celebration of Guyana as a vibrant hub of Caribbean sport, culture, and talent.”
He stressed that Massy’s sponsorship is about creating opportunities, supporting women’s development, and showcasing the courage and excellence of female athletes.
Nestlé Divisional Head, Teisha Milner echoed similar sentiments, calling the occasion a “moment of national pride.” She highlighted the symbolic importance of Guyana hosting the full tournament for the first time, saying, “This is not just a milestone for cricket, it’s a powerful signal of the region’s commitment to women in sport.”
Milner also linked the tournament’s values—resilience, teamwork, courage, and ambition—to the broader mission shared by Massy and its partners.
CPL Sponsorship Officer Tynisa Scantlebury praised Massy’s involvement since the league’s start in 2022, saying the company has been “more than just a title sponsor” and has played a key role in growing women’s cricket in the region.
“From day one, Massy has championed the growth of women’s sport. Their support has helped turn vision into reality.”
As anticipation builds for the 2025 WCPL, the tournament is being seen as both a sporting highlight and a social milestone—one that aims to inspire the next generation of Caribbean girls to dream big, both on and off the field.
