MINJ is set for another bumper dosage of Digicel EXXONMobil Cup action when the Jonah Amban Oval in Jiwaka Province plays host to competition leaders Lae Tigers against champions Mt Hagen Eagles languishing in eighth spot and bottom half teams Gulf Isou meeting home-side Waghi Tumbe. While in other round five matches, the ENB Gurias just outside the top four will host the inform Mendi Muruks at the Queen Elizabeth Park oval tomorrow. Then on Sunday, the triple header at the NFS in NCD, will see the third-placed Port Moresby Vipers up against a determined Kimbe Cutters pushing for their first win, the Hela Wigmen to face Goroka Lahanis in an expected grinder along with the recent strong form the Central Dabaris against the Enga Mioks. In Minj, the Eagles at their adapted home-ground will face their moment of truth as premiership contenders again when they take on the Tigers. After two losses, one win and a draw, the Eagles really need to raise their hand if they are to defend their premiership this season. With the Tigers undefeated, the pressure will be on the Eagles to show cause. The momentum is with the Tigers, but with the Eagles desperate for a win in front of their home-crowd that are likely to come across in numbers, the visitors will be hard-pressed for a win. Eagles coach Ruben Ruing is confident he has a better side to stop the Tiger’s good run. The Eagles weight of expectations will be carried by Henry Wan, Joshua Nani, Wari Rex, Simeon Waia, Adam Korowa, Sylvester Bulu, Benji Ben, Samuel Wak and Israel Balio. Tigers coach Noel Zeming is however determined as he brings an experienced lineup with the likes of Bobby Joel, David Joseph, Kevin Yako, Supa Kokote, Jarran Pitten, Nicky Aure and Terry Wapi with extensive local knowledge to provide resistance. For the Tumbe sitting in second-last, this is make or break for the home side as they will come out all guns blazing to pick up the match winning points against the Gulf franchise. Tumbe head coach Kupun Wisil says the side needs to put more effort if they want to start winning matches. “We will not take the Isou lightly as we are both at the bottom of the points table and are desperate to win.”
