Hyderabad: Former office-bearers of the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) are demanding that the state government expand the vigilance probe ordered into alleged irregularities in distribution of IPL tickets, to uncover deeper governance issues within the cricket body.“HCA president A. Jagan Mohan Rao has converted the VIP areas in the Uppal stadium into a party forum to manage his relations with a BRS leader who faced a jail term in a major scam. We understand the statement made by SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) about harassment. He has been doing this for the last two seasons, with an obvious intention,” said Sheshu Narayan, former secretary of the HCA.Recently, SRH charged the HCA president with coercion, blackmail, and harassment over demands for additional complimentary tickets and passes for the IPL matches. All clubs in the HCA are allotted 12 tickets each, including those for office-bearers. In spite of this, the HCA bosses want to use corporate boxes from F7 to F16 as their private boxes to distribute tickets to their families, relatives, and friends, or, in some cases, to sell at exorbitant rates. The president’s box was created to accommodate officials and VIPs with whom the association interacts throughout the year. The practice of preparing affiliation cards is meant to facilitate those who provide service. However, these tickets have been given to their own kith and kin and, in some cases, to club members. This privilege was supposed to be extended to stakeholders, including club secretaries. However, it is being misused, and the vigilance director must look into it.First-class cricketers, former office-bearers, and international players are eligible for a minimum of two tickets for their families. However, they have been completely ignored, and these tickets have been cornered by office-bearers. On average, the president, secretary, and treasurer alone are taking 400 to 500 tickets, apart from the complimentary tickets issued to their clubs. The probe is also expected to look into whether club ownership was transferred to individuals who have no connection to cricket.
