'He Is...': Ryan Ten Doeschate Provides Big Update On Rohit Sharma's Fitness Ahead Of IND-NZ Champions Trophy Match

Ryan ten Doeschate, who is the assistant coach of the Indian men’s cricket team, provided a big update on captain Rohit Sharma’s fitness and his availability for the Men in Blue’s last Group A match against New Zealand. India will face the Black Caps in Dubai on Sunday (March 2), and the winner of the match will finish as the table toppers of Group A in the Champions Trophy 2025.
Rohit, who suffered a hamstring injury during the India-Pakistan match in Dubai on February 23, was a doubtful starter for the India-New Zealand match on Sunday, but according to Ten Doeschate, Rohit is all right.
“He’s all right. You can see he’s batting a little bit further than earlier. It’s an injury he’s had before, so he knows how to manage it really well,” Ten Doeschate told reporters in Dubai on Friday when he was asked about the 37-year-old batter’s fitness after an injury scare in the game against Pakistan.
It was reported by multiple media organisations in India that Rohit could miss the match against New Zealand due to injury, and in his absence, vice-captain Shubman Gill will lead the side.
Star Indian batter KL Rahul also attended a press conference in Dubai on Friday, and when he was asked about Rohit’s injury update, he also said that there are no injury concerns in the Indian team.
“Fitness-wise, there are no concerns about anyone missing a game as far as I know,” Rahul said.
Rohit, who was horribly out of form in the three-match Test series against New Zealand last year, scored 41 runs against Bangladesh in India’s first match of the Champions Trophy 2025, and in the second Group A match against Pakistan, he hammered 20 runs from 15 balls. During his stay at the crease in that match, he broke Sachin Tendulkar’s record of being the fastest opener in the world to score 9000 runs in ODIs.
Rohit, who sits in the No. 3 position in the ICC ODI batter’s ranking, would like to come up with a big show in the match against New Zealand on Sunday and help India secure a sixth straight win in the 50-over format of the game against the Black Caps.
