Heaven injury update and Gyokeres bombshell - Man United's dream international break return
@Source: manchestereveningnews.co.uk
The 2024/25 season has not been a vintage one for Manchester United supporters and certainly not how Ineos wanted to start their era at Old Trafford. Erik ten Hag's extension lasted until the end of October after yet another torrid run of form. United were quick to appoint Ruben Amorim as his successor and there was a hope that he could mastermind change. However, form in the Premier League has not improved and while there is still a positive opinion of the Portuguese head coach, times are tough for United fans. The season is not over though. While United remain in the Europa League, there is still a chance of ending the campaign on a high and, should these scenarios play out, they could have a dream return from the international break on their hands. MEN Sport has taken a look at four events which could shape a positive mood at Old Trafford. Hojlund form continues Just like London buses, Rasmus Hojlund managed to bag goals in consecutive matches after scoring in the victory at Leicester City. He followed that goal with one against Portugal in the Nations League where he mimicked Cristiano Ronaldo's celebration in the process. However, the true test on whether he is back or not shall come next week when the Premier League returns with two tricky clashes against Nottingham Forest and Manchester City. Should he score in one or both of those matches, Hojlund could be playing his way back into form at what is a crucial time for United. Heaven injury update United fans held their collective breaths as Ayden Heaven was forced off during the win at the King Power Stadium prior to the international break. When the young centre-back was spotted with a protective boot on, many feared the worst. But, MEN Sport understands the boot has since been removed and there is a chance the defender returns to training this week. Should he manage to overcome the sessions without issue, it could mean an earlier than anticipated return to action for the defender. Gyokeres bombshell It is clear now that Viktor Gyokeres is likely to dominate the summer transfer window until he decides what his next move is. Sky Deutschland understands the Swede has reached a verbal agreement with Sporting that should a bid between £50.2m and £58.5m be submitted, it will be accepted. However, there is a long line of clubs hoping that they will be able to sign the centre-forward so a dream scenario would be if Gyokeres was to declare his desire to reunite with Amorim again. It was a partnership that worked so well in Portugal and at that price, it could be a gamble worth taking this summer. When Amad initially injured his ankle, there was an acceptance that it was a case of his season being over. Since Amorim hinted at the start of this month that the winger could return this season, hope of his imminent return has only grown. This week, the Ivorian dropped another hint that he could soon be returning to action for United and what a boost that would be to the entire squad. Should he make it back for May, an appearance in the latter stages of the Europa League could be on the cards - if the Reds can make it that far...
