Hollyoaks actor Ryan Mulvey has reportedly been signed up by rival soap Coronation Street just a few weeks after quitting the long-running series. He played JJ Osborne on the Chester-based series and was involved in one of its most controversial plots of recent years which centred on the shocking abuse he inflicted on his twin sister Frankie. According to The Sun, Ryan will make his first appearance on the cobbles of Weatherfield in a few weeks as part of a new storyline. He joined the Hollyoaks cast in January 2024, just before show execs announced the show would be cut from five days a week to three, and a mass cull of characters began. However, his character JJ, who was Darren Osborne's estranged son, went on to feature in one of the biggest bombshells of the year, when viewers learnt he had been repeatedly sexually abusing his twin. When his vile crimes first came out, not everyone believed the claims, but a time jump into the future set the scene for JJ's dramatic court case. The episode in which Frankie (played by Isabelle Smith) broke her silence, which aired in August last year, left some fans in tears and hailing it as one of the "best episodes" ever. One person wrote on X, formerly Twitter,: "Just to say @‌Hollyoaks is at the best at moment with climate collusion with Frankie storyline since Blue reveal it’s been amazing soap opera so far love it most telling most chilling storylines and best ones can’t wait what’s to come in September." After months of difficult scenes, JJ was eventually jailed for his crimes against Frankie, marking the end of Ryan's time on set. The storyline divided viewers, with some suggesting it was too dark for the soap. However, Ryan told The Mirror that the part of the appeal of being an actor was getting the opportunity to play "a character with so many different shades". "That's what makes a human, human. I'd want to sit down with JJ and ask, why? [Why did you do it?]," he shared. "No one does anything for no reason, so the most interesting thing would be looking into that character and questioning what has happened, why he acts like this and why he is so controlling. "Bringing that to life has been the most joyous sport, I have had the best onscreen family to play with, it's been absolutely amazing." * If you've been the victim of sexual assault, you can access help and resources via www.rapecrisis.org.uk or calling the national telephone helpline on 0808 802 9999 Like this story?
