Holmdel’s Ryan Quigley, CBA crowned Monmouth County Tournament champions

In one of the strongest fields in the Garden State to date, one underclassman outshined them all on Wednesday.
Holmdel junior Ryan Quigley shot an even-par 72 to take home individual medalist honors by one stroke at the Monmouth County Tournament at Charleston Springs Golf Course in Millstone.
Quigley made the winning birdie from eight feet out, his third on the day, on the par 4, 398-yard third hole (his 17th).
“I had a 20 footer for birdie on 16 that I narrowly missed, and I checked the leaderboard and saw I was one back. On 17, I sprayed my drive out right and went into the fescue. I had 130 in and went after a gap wedge and stuck it to eight feet. The putt was downhill from right to left, and I stayed calm and drained it,” said Quigley, who became the first Holmdel golfer ever to win the MCT and also recorded his first-ever 18-hole tournament win in his high school career.
“I saw on 18 that I was one up, so I hit my tee shot out to the right to keep it in play. I then laid up to 100 yards and put it to 10 feet. I had a two-putt par to win it. Overall, I stayed very calm throughout the round and tried to slow down time to get through it. I think my drives and putting helped me stay out of trouble and I had a couple of big par saves that helped me get it done as well.”
Ranney junior Samson Landers and Christian Brothers sophomore Jack Stamberger each shot 1-over 73 to finish in a two-way tie for second.
Ranney senior Chris Hannan (4-over 76) to finish solo fourth and Middletown South senior Brian Bauer (5-over 77), Allentown junior Jake Lachance (5-over 77) and Marlboro freshman Ryan Sun (5-over 77) all finished in a three-way tie for fifth.
“I’ve never won an 18-hole tournament in high school golf ever, although I have won a club championship and several two-day junior tournaments. I’ve had a bunch of close calls where I’ve lost by a couple of shots, and it feels really special to come through with a win for the first time. This win feels really special, and I think it’s a great momentum boost going into the Shore Conference Tournament (April 23). The team and I have all been playing some really solid golf this year and we all know what we can do at shore and the state tournament. I think the third place for the team and my win is just the start, and we are looking to follow it up with even better golf moving forward,” said Quigley, who last year finished seventh in the MCT.
Christian Brothers (318), No. 7 in the latest NJ.com Top 20, tied No. 8 Ranney (318) but won on a fifth-score tiebreaker to bring home the MCT team title for the first time since 2022 and 12th overall.
CBA had finished runner-up the last two seasons.
Stamberger’s 73 was joined by senior Jack O’Connor (79), senior Cormac Whalen (82), senior Anthony LaRosa (84) and senior Jonathan Raccuglia (85) for the Colts.
No. 9 Holmdel (322), Marlboro (323), and Middletown South (324) rounded out the top five. Seven teams finished within 10 strokes and nine teams finished within 20 strokes of the lead, showing how strong this year’s field was.
23 teams (117 players) competed on the par-72, 6,374-yard layout.
