Under the motto “For a Latin America and the Caribbean Free of Violence against Women,” the meeting, which took place at the headquarters of the Honduran Ministry of Foreign Affairs, aimed to propose strategies to end violence and harassment against women.
During the meeting in Tegucigalpa, representatives of the member countries of CELAC made a diagnosis of the challenges faced by women in the region and analyzed the implementation of strategies to eradicate this scourge from their physical and political autonomy.
Honduras was represented by the presidential designate, Vice President Doris Gutiérrez; Foreign Minister Enrique Reina and Minister of Women’s Affairs Doris García.
There were numerous international guests, including Bolivian Minister of the Presidency María Nela Prada; the deputy minister of Women of the Dominican Republic, Juana Cáceres; and the minister for Women and Gender Equality of Venezuela, Jhoanna Carrillo.
The event was also attended by the general secretary of the Cuban Women’s Federation (FMC) and member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, Teresa Amarelle Boué, the Cuban Embassy in Honduras reported in a press release.
The meeting became a relevant forum to raise awareness and provide guidance on the importance of preventive socialization in gender violence.
Cuba’s participation in the meeting strengthens the commitment with the region to eradicate the multiple forms of violence against women, promoting joint actions by the Mechanisms for the Advancement of Women, the text stressed.
The Cuban delegation also included the Minister Counselor of the Foreign Ministry, Nadiezda Arredondo, and Ambassador in Tegucigalpa Juan Loforte.
