…Tahir dazzles with 5-fer
Kaieteur Sports – Scorching half-centuries from Shai Hope and Shimron Hetmyer, backed by 5 wickets from captain Imran Tahir, set up a monster win for the Guyana Amazon Warriors last night as they steamrolled home team Antigua and Barbuda Falcons by a whopping 83-run margin at the Sir Viv Richards Stadium.
Taking first strike paid off for the Warriors who were piloted to 211-3 in 20 overs, after a tremendous century partnership with Hope stroking a classy yet aggressive 54-ball 82 with 6 fours and 5 sixes.
Hetmyer was devastating, smashing five sixes and as many fours to finish unbeaten on 65 from 26 balls, as the Falcon bowlers each claimed a wicket.
Falcons replying to a monster target were knocked over for 128 with a few overs remaining, with Karima Gore (31), Bevon Jacobs (26) being the Falcons’ main scorers.
The ageless leg-spinner Tahir starred with magical figures of 5-21, along with frontline pacers Dwaine Pretorius (2-44) and Romario Shepherd (2-16) helped pick apart the Falcons batting order.
Warriors lost openers Ben McDermott (8) and Kevlon Anderson (22), despite crossing the team’s half-century mark when the latter was dismissed in the 11th over.
Hope and Hetmyer consolidated for the minor setbacks as they pair dug into the Falcons bowling which was the backbone of the innings.
Not before after, Hope raised his bat to celebrate another fifty in the League as Hetmyer played a more aggressive role on his way to a much-deserved half-century.
Pacer Jayden Seals’ (1-34) removal of Hope paved the way for Shepherd to pick the bones off the final few overs.
The all-rounder sped his way to 25* off a mere 8 deliveries with two fours and two sixes, forging a solid backend partnership with Hetmyer to help push Guyana over the 200-run mark. (Clifton Ross)
