Fresh from his match-winning heroics for West Indies earlier this week, Shai Hope was back in top form on Friday night as he guided Guyana Amazon Warriors to an easy win over St Kitts patriots in the second match of the Caribbean Premier league. (CPL).
The West Indies skipper scored a sensational century on Tuesday to help his team beat Pakistan in a memorable match at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Trinidad. The classy right-hander then moved to St Kitts where his well-crafted 56 not out off 39 balls with five fours and two sixes was the backbone as the Guyana franchise blew away the home side by five wickets at Warner Park in Basseterre.
Guyana’s win was powered by a blistering knock from Australian Ben McDermott, with an explosive 75 off just 39 deliveries on CPL debut. This helped Warriors chase down 154 with 16 balls to spare. McDermott and Hope destroyed the Patriots bowling attack in a second wicket stand of 114.
Earlier, Warriors captain Imran Tahir elected to bowl and the Patriots posted a competitive 153-8, anchored by Andre Fletcher’s fluent 60 from 41 balls, which included five sixes. Jyd Goolie chipped in with 24 not out from 15 balls as Dwaine Pretorious bagged 3-43 runs and Tahir 2-19.
The victory extended the Warriors’ dominance over the Patriots, marking their fifth consecutive win against the franchise. It propelled last season’s runners-up to the top of the table early in the tournament. (PS)
