The Italian hotel in which Wales Under-20s players were staying during the recent World Rugby U20 Championships has issued a statement following alleged damage at the venue, labelling the behaviour of some players as "disrespectful". The Welsh Rugby Union on Monday launched an investigation into the allegations, which first appeared in the Italian media, that stated some members of Richard Whiffin's squad had stormed the stage at a local festival and caused damage to the accommodation in which they were staying. Hours after Wales' final game of the tournament in Rovigo at the weekend, some of the young Welsh squad are alleged to have created havoc in the city centre , urinating on walls, stealing a microphone off an event host and knocking over furniture. A WRU spokesman said on Tuesday in response to the initial reports that they were aware of the alleged events and were looking into the matter and would respond in full when facts had been established. The Hotel Capital in Rovigo, south of Venice, have now claimed players were "disrespectful" of the hotel's rules, walking around barefooted and without clothes on in front of other guests - something which was against the stated rules. They also said they found damage to hotel bikes, broken electric door locks and that damage had been caused to a meeting room that had been given to the squad for the duration of their stay in the venue, with holes in the wall found. The same was also found in some of the players' rooms, the hotel said. Bosses also claim loud music was played late at night, which impacted on other guests, while screams were allegedly heard in the corridors. The hotel, owned by Mr Federico Mercuri, also stated no damage payments had been received by the hotel from the Welsh Rugby Union. The statement said: "We would like to tell you in more detail what happened during the team’s stay. "The boys have been disrespectful with the rules that we have in the hotel. We confirm the fact that they walked barefoot and without shirt and trousers in front of the other hotel guests. "They asked us about the bikes we have but after a couple of times we found the bikes broken. "We confirm the fact that they pushed the doors with the shoulders and this led to the breaking of many locks, which being electric has led to great damage. "They also damaged the meeting room that we gave to them for all the weeks they have been here (holes in the wall and they left dirty). "We also found holes in the walls of the rooms. The disrespectful behavior has turned towards the hotel guests with loud music until late at night and with screams in the corridors. "We confirm that no damage payments have been made by the team." Whiffin's squad finished in eighth place at the tournament as they were beaten 31-23 by the hosts , having won just one of their five games in the competition.
