Veteran spin bowler R. Ashwin was speaking on his YouTube channel and taking fan questions during the course of the show. One of the questions asked to the former India star was if a good season in the Indian Premier League (IPL) can see Shreyas Iyer back in the Test side. Advertisment Iyer, made his return to the team in the ODI format and played a key role for India in the Champions Trophy title win. The 30-year-old was the leading run scorer for the Men in Blue during the tournament. Shreyas last played a Test for India in early 2024 against England in Visakhapatnam. Addressing this question, Ashwin said, “Tell me one thing: how can a good IPL lead to a Test call-up? How can you improve your test credentials if you have a good IPL? If you do well in ODIs, someone writes an article about having that player in Tests." The 38-year-old also added, “If someone does well in Tests, people start talking about return in T20Is. Isn"t all this wrong? If you have a good IPL, then only your T20I credentials should improve." Shreyas Iyer began his Test career with a bang, scoring a century on debut before his form fell off and he eventually lost his place in the side. Kris Srikkanth makes huge claim about Chris Gayle Former India skipper Kris Srikkanth made a huge statement about Chris Gayle during a recent book launch in Chennai. Srikkanth said that the former West Indian and RCB star feared facing Ashwin and his "legs started to shake" whenever the duo went up for battle in the league. Srikkanth said, “Chris Gayle can hit boundaries and sixes, but he could not handle R. Ashwin. Ashwin needed only four balls to dismiss him. When Ashwin used to bowl to him, his legs started shaking.” During the course of the event, Srikkanth also praised Dhoni for identifying Ashwin"s talent and making him a better player. “Dhoni identified his talent in T20 cricket, making him a match-winning bowler. He then showed his class in the ODIs and Test cricket. He was a good batter as well,” said Srikkanth.
