How celebrities, notable figures finished at the 2025 Boston Marathon
@Source: boston.com
It will be hard to spot a face in the crowd of 30,000 participants at the 2025 Boston Marathon on Monday. But if you search hard enough, you may spy a couple of famous figures along the 26.2-mile race course.
Each year, a handful of celebrities head to Boston to try their luck at the Boston Marathon. Recent participants include former Bruins defenseman Zdeno Chara, former NASCAR driver Danica Patrick, “The Bachelor” star Matt James, and “Supernatural” actor Jared Padalecki, who tackled the race in 2019 along with his wife, Genevieve.
James was back for this year’s race, pulling double duty as both a runner and an on-course commentator for ESPN and WCVB.
Chara, who was initially included in an official list of notable runners participating in the 2025 Boston Marathon, ultimately did not run on Monday.
A source told Boston.com that there were “rumblings” leading up to race day that Chara wouldn’t be running due to an injury. (Chara’s representatives did not return a request for comment.)
Here are the finishing times (courtesy the B.A.A. racing app) for the bold-faced names running the 2025 Boston Marathon.
(Note: This list will be updated with as racers finish.)
Matt James (3:36:54)
Matt James, the star of “The Bachelor” Season 25, ran his first Boston Marathon since 2022 with an unofficial time of 3:36:54.
The reality TV star managed a respectable time despite also serving as a field correspondent for ESPN and WCVB-TV while out on the course.
“I heard so many inspiring stories on my run,” James told WCVB. “Coming down Boylston, there’s no feeling like it in the world.”
Amby Burfoot (4:51:47)
Ambrose “Amby” Burfoot was an elite marathoner in the 1960s and ’70s, winning the race in 1968. Burfoot was destined for Boston Marathon greatness, training in high school under 1957 Boston Marathon winner John J. Kelley and rooming in college with four-time Boston Marathon winner Bill Rodgers.
Burfoot, 78, wearing the bib number 1968 in honor of his milestone victory, finished with an unofficial time of 4:51:47.
Dave McGillivray (5:06:03)
For years, Boston Marathon race course director Dave McGillivray was consistently the last runner to finish the race. That’s not because he’s slow — his personal best time is 2:29:58 — but because he was too busy overseeing every aspect of the race to compete until well after most runners already crossed the finish line.
Last year, McGillivray ran his first race from the middle of the scrum. For this year’s race, his 53rd Boston Marathon, the plan was the same: See off the first two waves of open division runners, then hit the course. In the end, he finished with a time of 5:06:03.
Paula Radcliffe (2:53:44)
Radcliffe, a former world record holder in the Women’s Marathon, will wear Bib 215 in honor of her then-record time of 2 hours, 15 minutes (and 25 seconds).
Radcliffe, who ran an unofficial time of 2:53:44, earned her Abbott World Marathon Majors Six Star Medal, given to runners who complete the Boston, Tokyo, London, Berlin, Chicago, and New York City marathons.
Brian Diemer (3:56:45)
Olympian Brian Diemer wore Bib 1984 in honor of his bronze medal in the 3000m steeplechase at the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles. In his first-ever marathon, Diemer finished with a time of 3:56:45.
“After years of telling everybody adamantly I would never run a Marathon, I qualified for Boston,” Diemer said in a Facebook video. “And so now I have to run it.”
Scott Stallings (4:10:19)
Professional golfer and Worcester native Scott Stallings won his first PGA Tour tournament back in 2011, and has been on the pro circuit ever since. When a shoulder injury temporarily forced him off the links, he turned to training for his first Marathon.
“I was born in Worcester, Massachusetts right down the road,” Stallings said in an Instagram video. “I turned 40 in March. This the first time in my life I’ve ever had the time and attention to train for something like this.”

Drew Carter (3:48:02)
Carter, the Celtics’ play-by-play voice on NBC Sports Boston, ran his first-ever marathon with a time of 3:48:02.
“This just feels like the perfect way for me to use my platform as the Celtics announcer and my background as a runner to do some good and have a lot of fun and get to be a part of that fabric and one of the truly special things about Boston,” Carter told Boston.com.
Emily Maher
After running the 2024 Boston Marathon for the Boys & Girls Club of Boston, WCVB reporter Emily Maher is running for the Matt Brown Foundation, which helps individuals and families impacted by long-term illness or injury, with a focus on paralysis.
Brown, who suffered a spinal injury while playing high school hockey, will be participating in the duo division of the Boston Marathon for the 11th time with his running partner, Lucas Carr.

Matt Prichard and Malcolm Johnson (3:42:44)
Two NBC 10 Boston reporters — Matt Prichard and Malcolm Johnson — joined the field of journalists participating in the 2025 Boston Marathon.
Prichard raised money for Boston Medical Center, while Johnson (3:42:44) ran on behalf of Boston Children’s Hospital.

Shane Sager
When he’s not out running, musician Shane Sager travels all over the globe, playing harmonica with Sting’s touring band. Sager told Boston.com in 2024 that he was raising money for his family’s foundation combatting pediatric cancer.
“Being a touring musician gone nine months a year and balancing training for Boston has been a challenge, but it’s nothing compared to what challenges these kids face battling pediatric cancer,” Sager said. “I saw this as an opportunity to help in whatever way I can to bring more light into these children’s lives.”
Jess Healey (4:02:03)
Hockey player Jess Healey, formerly of the PWHL’s Boston Fleet, ran this year’s Boston Marathon in 4:02:03.
The Fleet social team was there to cheer Healey on as she snaked her way through Boston.
