2025 World Figure Skating Championships Athletes, Contenders
Team USA is expected to be a medal contender in all four disciplines this year, with defending world champions Ilia Malinin and ice dancers Madison Chock and Evan Bates leading the U.S. team once again. Amber Glenn leads the women’s team, having won all five of her events in 2024-25, including December’s Grand Prix Final. And newly-crowned pairs champs Misha Mitrofanov and Alisa Efimov will be looking for a podium spot hot off their victory at the recent U.S. Nationals.
Other top contenders include Japan’s Yuma Kagiyama and Shun Sato in the men’s competition; three-time women’s world champ Kaori Sakamoto, who is aiming to add a fourth title to her collection; Canadians Piper Gilles and Paul Poirier, who are hoping to deny a Chock and Bates three-peat; and reigning pairs champions Deanna Stellato-Dudek and Maxime Deschamps of Canada. At 40 years old last year, Stellato-Dudek became the oldest female figure skater to win a world title in any of the four disciplines.
