Huge Blow For England: Chris Woakes Set To Miss Remainder Of 5th Test vs India - Report
@Source: timesnownews.com
Chris Woakes, who suffered a shoulder injury on Day 1 of the fifth and final Test against India at The Oval in London, is unlikely to take the field again. Woakes, who picked up the important wicket of KL Rahul with a ripper that left the Indian opener castled, tumbled while attempting to save a boundary late on Thursday. He landed awkwardly and left the field for medical attention, holding his left arm in a makeshift sling and in visible pain. Woakes’s injury appears serious, and England players do not expect him to bowl again in the match. The pacer underwent a scan overnight, and an update is awaited on Friday. "It doesn't look great," fellow England pacer Gus Atkinson told BBC Sport. "I will be surprised if he takes any part in the game." "It's the last game of the series and when anyone gets injured it's a shame. We're hoping it's not too bad. Whatever it is, he will get full support from everyone." Woakes was seen on the ground after India ended the day on 204 for 6, with the England medical staff tending to him and assessing his injury. The veteran pacer’s injury is a major blow for England, who are already missing captain Ben Stokes, ruled out of the match due to a torn shoulder muscle. Jofra Archer, who played his first Test in four years at Lord’s and then featured at Old Trafford, was rested along with Brydon Carse. Spinner Liam Dawson is also unavailable for the match. Woakes was the only England pacer to have featured in every Test of the gruelling five-match series. However, he failed to make much of an impact, taking 10 wickets. This injury, coming just ahead of England’s Ashes series in Australia, could make him doubtful for the tour. At the age of 36, there are growing concerns that the injury could curtail his future in international cricket.
