Hyderabad: Hyderabad has been ranked 50th in the world in the 2024-25 edition of the “100 Best Food Cities” by TasteAtlas, an international guide to traditional food culture. With a score of 4.47 out of 5, the city has earned global recognition for its deep-rooted culinary traditions, iconic dishes, and legendary eateries. The list, based on user ratings, critic reviews and traditional food heritage, features six Indian cities — Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, Amritsar and Hyderabad. While Mumbai ranked highest among them at 42, Hyderabad’s place in the top 50 reflects its growing international reputation as a food destination that balances heritage with everyday appeal. TasteAtlas credited Hyderabad’s entry to dishes like Hyderabadi biryani, Chicken 65, Pesara Dosa and Karachi biscuits, all of which have received high scores for flavour and authenticity. Restaurants and bakeries such as Hotel Shadab, Shah Ghouse, Bawarchi, ITC Kohenur’s Dakshin, Jewel of Nizam and Karachi Bakery were listed as part of the city’s must-visit food spots. The guide also recognised Hyderabad-based brand Manam Chocolates, which has gained attention for its bean-to-bar approach to Indian chocolate, adding a modern edge to the city’s food landscape. Food lovers and chefs in the city welcomed the recognition as long overdue. “Hyderabadi cuisine isn’t just about biryani, it’s about balance, depth and legacy. This ranking is a nod to generations of flavour,” said a food blogger Manish Verma from the city.
