I Don't Doubt Myself, I Will Get A Chance To Play For India Again: Deepak Chahar
@Source: news18.com
Deepak Chahar is confidently looking forward to making a comeback to the national team. The Mumbai Indians (MI) pacer who last played for India in December 2023, said despite a series of injuries in recent years, he hasn’t doubted himself or thought about someone else taking his place in the side. Chahar made his ODI and T20I debuts in 2018 and played 13 and 25 matches taking 16 and 31 wickets respectively. He hasn’t been able to complete the last two IPL seasons due to injuries. In IPL 2025, he has taken four wickets with an economy rate of 10.66 after playing all five matches so far. “Yes, I think, I have had injuries, in the last 3 years, I have had a lot of injuries, but, I am not the only one, there are a lot of other players who are injured,” Chahar said in the pre-match press conference at the Arun Jaitley Stadium ahead of MI’s match against Delhi Capitals. “My mindset is a little different, if you think, that I am injured, and I am not able to play, someone else is playing, will I be able to come back. If you doubt yourself, then you have a problem, I don’t doubt myself. My skill, from where I have played well, in the Indian team, I am always in a better position, from where I play regularly, I have played well, I will get a chance again,” he added. Chahar also spoke about Jasprit Bumrah, who’s also returning from a serious back injury that kept him out of all international cricket for three months. “Jassi also had a back injury. I also had a back injury. I can understand what problems he has to face. At the end of the day, it’s a team game. But at the same time, it’s an individual game also. You have to take care of your body. If you are injured, you will be out of the team. The feel is different for each player. Only then he will be able to play again. He is very strong-willed. You saw his bowling in the first match after three months, you can see his class. It had a big impact,” Chahar added. MI have struggled this season, winning just one match and languishing at the eighth spot in the points table.
