'I Don't Mind': Rohit Sharma Has No Qualms After Playing As Impact Sub For Mumbai Indians

Mumbai Indians opener Rohit Sharma doesn’t have any issue being used as an Impact Player in the IPL 2025 even though indicating he would prefer not being limited to the role as a batter. Since the beginning of the season, Rohit has rarely been present during his team’s fielding duties, with the MI management preferring to utilise his prowess as batter.
Notably, the former MI skipper skipped the league-stage fixture against the Lucknow Super Giants with a knee problem earlier this month.
Rohit is not too fond of the idea and believes the Impact Player role has made it harder for him to connect with the game.
“It’s something we spoke about, but 2-3 overs don’t make a huge difference. It’s not easy when you haven’t fielded for 17 overs that’s the thought process but I don’t mind that if I my team wants me to come straightaway and bat,” said the Indian batting giant after a welcome return to form with his 76 not out against the Chennai Super Kings.
Rohit, the Player of the Match on the night, also spoke emotionally about being conferred with a stand named after him at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, recalling the time he used to face challenges entering the same venue.
“It is a huge honour; I mentioned it as a young kid. We were not allowed to come to the stadium at some stage. But, having played all my cricket here, and now to have that stand, it is a big honour. Whenever that name comes up, I do not know how to react,” he said.
Rohit would aim to continue his form in MI’s next league stage vs the Sunrisers Hyderabad.
