He said, "When I first moved to LA, Landon Donovan was the captain. And the owner of the team came to me and said, 'I want you to be captain.' And I said, 'No, Landon Donovan is the captain.'" Beckham eventually relented after being told Donovan was fine with it. However, he now wishes he had stood by his initial instinct. "It's my one regret, I should never have taken it off of Landon," Beckham admitted. Donovan had previously expressed his disappointment with Beckham's attitude towards the team. In 2009, he was quoted in "The Beckham Experiment" by Grant Wahl, saying, "When David first came, I believed he was committed to what he was doing. But something changed.
