Star batter Cheteshwar Pujara announced his retirement from all forms of Indian cricket on Sunday, August 24. The 37-year-old right-handed batter from Rajkot, who last played for India in the 2023 World Test Championship (WTC) final against Australia at The Oval from June 7 to 11 in 2023, featured in a total of 103 Test matches during his 15-year-long international career and scored 7195 runs. Pujara slammed 19 centuries and 35 half-centuries for India in the whites. After Pujara announced his retirement from professional cricket, Iceland Cricket took to X to share a tweet via which they indirectly took a dig at BCCI selectors. He was one of the broadcasters with Jio Hotstar for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, and in the recently concluded Test series against England as well, he donned the same role for Sony Sports. Pujara to stay connect with the same Speaking to reporters in Rajkot on Sunday, Pujara said he has no regrets, and even though he has retired, he will continue to remain associated with the game. “There are no regrets. I am very fortunate to have played for the Indian team for such a long time; not many players got that opportunity, so I am very thankful to my family and people who have supported me,” Pujara told reporters in a media conference in his hometown. He has already started his work as a broadcaster during the recent Test series in England and indicated that he has found his calling in commentary. “I am really happy that I am calling this off, but at the same time I will stay attached to the game. As a cricketer, I would like to stay associated with cricket, doing commentary, and I have started doing media work as well. I am not going to play cricket, but I will be watching the Indian team and commenting on it. The honour will continue,” he added.
