Star Pakistani wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan was not picked in the Asia Cup 2025 squad. The 33-year-old right-handed batter, who has 3414 runs to his name in 106 T20Is played so far for Men in Green, was ignored for the premier continental event starting September 9 in Abu Dhabi, along with former all-format captain Babar Azam, pacer Naseem Shah and star spin bowling all-rounder Shadab Khan. The snub of Rizwan, who last played a shortest-format match for the Pakistani team in December last year, came as a surprise for many cricket fans and experts in Pakistan. But after getting ignored for the premier continental event, Rizwan joined a new team on Wednesday (August 20). He will play for the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots in the ongoing season of the Caribbean Premier League. Rizwan joined the franchise as a replacement for Afghanistan fast bowler Fazalhaq Farooqi. Farooqi will leave the CPL midway to join the Afghanistan squad for the T20I tri-series involving Pakistan and the UAE. It is the first time in his career that Rizwan will take part in the CPL. Apart from Rizwan, leg spinner Usama Mir is also playing in the CPL 2025. He was signed by Antigua and Barbuda Falcons on Thursday, whereas fast bowlers Naseem Shah and Abbas Afridi are already playing for St Kitts and Nevis Patriots. Former Pakistani all-rounder Imad Wasim, fast bowler Mohammad Amir and Salman Irshad are also playing in the CPL this year. Rizwan last played for PAK in ODIs Rizwan last played a competitive match (ODI) for Pakistan on August 12, 2025, in Tarouba against the West Indies. In that fixture, he came out to bat at No. 4 for the Pakistani team in the 295-run chase but got clean bowled for a golden duck by fast bowler Jayden Seales. In the three-match ODI series against the West Indies, Rizwan was only able to score a total of 69 runs, and under his leadership, Pakistan, for the first time in 34 years, lost a bilateral ODI series against the Men in Maroon.
