In Honor of the Pilots of Air India Flight AI171

Captain Sumeet Sabharwal & First Officer Clive Kundar
They guided lives for a living—and gave theirs in the line of duty.

On June 12, 2025, Air India Flight AI171 took off from Ahmedabad, carrying 242 souls and bound for London. It was meant to be another safe journey. But fate had other plans.

When things went wrong just moments after takeoff, these two pilots did what professionals do: they stayed calm, issued a Mayday call, and fought to the very last second to save their passengers.

  • Captain Sumeet Sabharwal, a seasoned Boeing 787 commander with over 8,000 flight hours, was known for his composed, meticulous approach to flying. A mentor, a leader, a guardian of skies.
  • First Officer Clive Kundar, a rising star with over 1,100 hours of experience, was not just a dedicated aviator but a beloved family man—mourned deeply by his cousin, actor Vikrant Massey, and so many others who knew his passion for flight.

They did not survive. But their professionalism, courage, and final moments of service remind us that the people in the cockpit are not just pilots—they are protectors.

  • Today, we honor their legacy.
Today, we remember their final flight.
Today, we thank them for their ultimate sacrifice.

May they rest in eternal peace.
