In the first semifinal match, India Masters beat Australia Masters by 94 runs after Yuvraj Singh hit a power-packed 59-run innings at a strike-rate of 196.67. India Masters posted a mammoth target of 221 runs, with captain Sachin Tendulkar scoring 42 runs. Stuart Binny (36 runs at a strike rate of 171.43), Yusuf Pathan (23 runs at a strike rate of 230) and Irfan Pathan (19 runs at a strike rate of 271.43) contributed vital runs in the end. Shahbaz Nadeem’s match-winning four-wicket haul led the bowling efforts, ultimately crippling the Australian batting lineup. The second semifinal between West Indies and Sri Lanka was a much closer affair. West Indies posted a target of 180, riding on the performance of Denesh Ramdin’s explosive half-century and a solid knock of 41 runs by captain Brian Lara. Sri Lanka were jolted early, collapsing to 97/6 by the 14th over. Asela Gunaratne’s 66-run innings kept Sri Lanka’s hopes alive, but Tino Best’s bowling performance of 4/27 sealed the match in West Indies’ favour by six runs.
