'Indian Cricket's No One's Personal Property': Gautam Gambhir Slams His Biggest Critics
@Source: news18.com
Head Coach of the Indian Cricket Team Gautam Gambhir was under a massive amount of criticism after the Test team suffered defeats at the hands of New Zealand at home and Australia away. Several former cricketers took to question the former opener’s appointment for the role.
Since then, Gambhir has taken to show why he is meant for the role as led the charge to help India get their second Champions Trophy title with an emphatic performance where they remained unbeaten.
Gambhir finally responded to his biggest critics. While he understands that questions are meant to be asked, he also remains aware of how some figures might not have the best of intentions.
“I am into this job for eight months. If results don’t come, I am fine with criticism. It is people’s job to criticise. There are people who are sitting in the commentary box for 25 years and feel that Indian cricket is their personal fiefdom,” Gambhir said at ABP News’ ‘India At 2047’ Summit.
“Indian cricket’s no one’s personal property and it belongs to 140 crore Indians,” he asserted.
“These people have raised questions about my coaching, concussions (when he left 2011 Tour of England after a head injury), to distribution of Champions Trophy prize money,” the straight-talker from Delhi said.
He also firmly denied having any differences with the ODI and Test skipper, Rohit Sharma and slammed those experts and showing his respect for the Indian skipper.
“…who are these people, who are saying all these things? These are speculations done by experts and those who run YouTube channels. Two months back, a coach and a captain together won a Champions Trophy.
“Imagine what you would ask if we wouldnt have won CT. I respect what Rohit has done for Indian cricket. I have got a lot of time for someone like Rohit Sharma. It was from start and it will remain like that with him,” he asserted.
Gambhir will have his next objective set out for him as India are all set to tour England with the series beginning on June 20th later this year.
