India will name their squad for the 2025 Asia Cup on Tuesday (August 18). There are plenty of players who are confirmed to retain their spots and very few changes are expected in the T20I team. Jasprit Bumrah, if he is available, will make his return to T20I cricket for the first time since the 2024 World Cup. A day ahead of the selection meeting, Indian legend Harbhajan Singh picked his team for the tournament. He picked an injured Rishabh Pant and also brought back KL Rahul. "I think the squad should be: Yashasvi Jaiswal, Abhishek Sharma, Shubman Gill, Suryakumar Yadav – the captain, Hardik Pandya, Shreyas Iyer, Washington Sundar, Riyan Parag for the middle order, Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, Mohammed Siraj, Arshdeep Singh, KL Rahul, Jasprit Bumrah and Rishabh Pant," Harbhajan told The Times of India. Pant is down with a fractured foot. The wicketkeeper-batsman suffered a foot injury on the opening day of the fourth Test match against England. He returned home and missed the fifth Test match. Rishabh is confirmed to miss the Asia Cup and home Test series against West Indies. As for Rahul, he hasn't played a T20I since the 2022 World Cup. The former India vice-captain hasn't been in the scheme of things in T20I cricket for more than 2 years now. He remains a regular in Tests and ODIs. Multiple reports have claimed that Shubman Gill might miss out on making it to the squad for the Asia Cup squad. Shubman, who was appointed white-ball teams' vice-captain last year, hasn't played a T20I since July 2024. He was Rohit Sharma's deputy in the 2025 Champions Trophy. Gill could miss out on making his T20I comeback if Yashasvi Jaiswal is handed a recall. He was part of India's 2024 T20 World Cup-winning team. Suryakumar Yadav is fit to lead Team India in the continental tournament.
