India’s White Ball Tour Of Bangladesh Likely To Be Postponed: Report
@Source: news18.com
In what comes as a major development, India’s upcoming white-ball tour of Bangladesh is set to be rescheduled due to diplomatic reasons. The series, comprising 3 ODIs and as many, is scheduled to commence from August 17 in Dhaka. However, the recent report states that it may be pushed further due to clearance to the Indian team from the central government. As reported by AFP on Wednesday, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) media committee chairman Iftikhar Rahman said the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has indicated the tour could be postponed. However, the Indian cricket board has yet to comment on the development. “The tour is part of the FTP (International Cricket Council’s Future Tours Programme), so cancellation is not an option. But it may be rescheduled to a mutually convenient time,” Rahman said, without providing further details. BCB sources mentioned that the tour is awaiting approval from the Indian government, as reported in Indian media. The uncertainty comes in the wake of recent diplomatic tension between Dhaka and New Delhi after a mass uprising in Bangladesh toppled the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in August 2024. Bangladesh toured India in September-October 2024 for two Tests and two T20 matches. Let’s have a look at the schedule which was announced initially: Shere Bangla National Stadium, Dhaka Shere Bangla National Stadium, Dhaka Bir Sreshtho Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Stadium, Chattogram Bir Sreshtho Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Stadium, Chattogram Shere Bangla National Stadium, Dhaka Shere Bangla National Stadium, Dhaka First International Appearance For Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli After Test Retirement The ODI series would be the first appearance of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma since their retirements from Test cricket. The duo has already quit T20Is after winning the T20 World Cup in the Caribbean in 2024. After bidding adieu to Tests, ODI is the only format they are continuing with. However, it’s yet to be seen if they will be named in the squads if the tour gets finalised. (With AFP Inputs)
