Inside the Celtic dressing room after Scottish Cup heartache as Brendan Rodgers makes two things clear
@Source: dailyrecord.co.uk
Bruised Brendan Rodgers has been backed to bounce back from the agony of missing out on the Treble and make Celtic even stronger next season. The Hoops boss was left gutted at missing out on the domestic clean sweep after Aberdeen soaked up Celts pressure to snatch the Scottish Cup on penalties. It was an agonising end to a successful season where the Parkhead men romped to the Premiership title and lifted the League Cup – while charging to the Champions League knockout stages. Rodgers is determined to kick on again and is set to hold talks with club chiefs this week to thrash out a plan of attack for next term. Another striker is top of his wish list, and he’s also targeting at least one more wide man. Rodgers is also in the market for another left back but has not closed the door in keeping Greg Taylor – or Jeffrey Schlupp. Taylor is still assessing his options with his Celtic contract up in the coming days while Schlupp will be a free agent with his Crystal Palace deal also coming to an end. The pair of them are still on the table and the Hoops will also schedule talks with Daizen Maeda’s representatives with the attacker heading into the final two years of his contract. Defender Liam Scales insisted Rodgers will be as motivated as ever to maintain the Parkhead progress. The Irish defender said: “He always wants the club to improve year on year. Since I arrived four years ago, it seems to keep getting better at every transfer window. “The competition is stronger. We have two or three players for every position on the pitch that can really do a job. “I think that's obviously going to be the focus, especially with the Champions League coming up. We need to qualify for that. “If we do, we want to be strong going into that as well. “We’re going to have to hit the ground running after the summer – but we're well used to it. “You go away on holidays, but you're given programmes to keep taking over. “We'll come back in fine shape. “I'll have a week off and then a week with the Republic of Ireland. I'll have two and a half, three weeks off after that. I do, I get a week and then I'm back in for a week and then I'll have three weeks.” Scales revealed Rodgers tried to lift his squad after the Hampden heartache – but admitted to his group there would be changes over the summer. Celtic will need reinforcements with Jota out until the New Year and Reo Hatate is facing a race to be fit for pre-season and James Forrest also limping out of Hampden with a hamstring tear. Scales insisted his boss won’t stand still and he said: “He was disappointed – as everyone was. He said he was proud of us. He wants us to be together as a team that evening, to spend the last day of the season together. “There will be a few lads who are not here next season and a few new faces. We've had a good season although it ended on a bad note. “He wants us to stick together, and go on holidays and come back fresher. “It's been a great season. It's hard to look past Saturday but when we reflect in a week or two, the next week is going to be tough but when we reflect afterwards, we were really good for the majority of the season. “We won a lot of games and scored a lot of goals in the league. We obviously had a good Champions League campaign. "There's a lot of positives to take. I think you can also take positives out of Saturday. “In a way, we don't want it happening again. It'll keep us on it for next season.”
