Insiders have weighed in on Prince Harry and Meghan’s marriage amid persistent and unsubstantiated speculation of cracks in their relationship.
Rumours of trouble in paradise have swirled around the couple for years, fuelled last year by their decision to split their professional pathways in favour of solo ventures. Harry also further set tongues wagging with his conspicuous absence from Meghan’s new Netlix series, With Love, Meghan, which featured just a brief cameo by him toward the end.
With season two already filmed and set to be released in the latter half of this year, it’s been confirmed that Harry will not appear at all, and the show will instead solely focus on the duchess hosting friends.
“He’s (Prince Harry) not in it. It’s her and more friends. More of the same,” a source told the Mail Online.
However, the publication went on to add that sources had also branded marriage speculation as “exaggerated”.
“Persistent reports that there is marital trouble in their Montecito paradise are described by sources close to the couple as ‘exaggerated’,” Mail Online columnist Alison Boshoff wrote.
“They say With Love, Meghan was always a ‘personal project’ of the duchess, and that she and Harry ‘fully support’ each other’s work while also pursuing their own passions.”
Last December, Harry himself addressed the frenzied speculation around his marriage while taking part in The New York Times’ 2024 DealBook Summit.
Speaking on a panel, Harry emphasised that the constant scrutiny on their six-year marriage was “definitely not a good thing”.
“Apparently we’ve bought or moved house 10, 12 times,” he said while at the event.
“We’ve apparently divorced maybe 10, 12 times as well. So it’s just like, what?’”
Harry added that he felt “sorry” for the online “trolls”.
“It’s hard to keep up with, but that’s why you just sort of ignore it. The people I feel most sorry about are the trolls,” Harry said.
“Their hopes are just built and built, and it’s like, ‘Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes,’ and then it doesn’t happen. So I feel sorry for them. Genuinely, I do.”
The couple first met in 2016 and went public with their relationship later that year. They were engaged in late 2017, and tied the knot in a royal wedding watched all over the world in May 2018.
Harry and Meghan, along with son Prince Archie, 5, and daughter Princess Lilibet, 3, are now based in Montecito, California, having quit royal duties in 2020.
Initially, they launched a flurry of joint projects and initiatives, but are now focusing on their own individual careers.
