Afghanistan spinner Noor Ahmad was the pick of Chennai Super Kings's bowlers in their IPL 2025 opener against Mumbai Indians at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. The Afghan wrist-spinner took four wickets, which restricted the five-time champions to 155/9 in 20 overs. CSK skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad had won the toss and elected to field. Ahmad registered his career-best bowling figures in the cash-rich league. Ahmad chipped in after MI were down to 36/3 in the Powerplay. He sent back MI stand-in skipper Suryakumar Yadav, who took his side toward the 100-run mark. In his very next over, Ahmad sent back Robin Minz and Tilak Varma to reduce MI to 96/6. Ahmad then knocked over Naman Dhir, who slammed a 12-ball 17. He conceded 18 runs in four overs. As mentioned, Ahmad recorded his career-best bowling figures in the IPL. His previous-best figures were 3/37, which came against Gujarat Titans in his debut season (2023). In 25 IPL matches, the Afghan spinner has now raced past 25 wickets. He has an average of under 25, while economy rate hovers around 8. Ahmad now eyes his maiden fifer in the league.
