Lucknow Super Giantsrsquo young leg spinner Digvesh Rathi has once again grabbed attention in the Indian Premier League IPL 2025 this time for narrowly escaping disciplinary action from the Board of Control for Cricket in India BCCI.
During LSGrsquos high-scoring clash against Kolkata Knight Riders KKR at Eden Gardens yesterday Rathi tweaked his controversial wicket celebration and avoided a fresh fine but a suspension still looms.
A Twist in the Tale Celebration With Caution
Rathi dismissed West Indian all-rounder Sunil Narine in just his second delivery and celebrated with a toned-down gesture pretending to write on the floor rather than his earlier more provocative notebook routine.

The act was a subtle nod to his previous antics while showing signs of restraint. The BCCI which had earlier fined him twice for similar actions has so far chosen not to penalise him again.

Previous Offences and Penalties
Rathirsquos on-field conduct has come under scrutiny in recent weeks. He was
Fined 25% of his match fee and handed 1 demerit point for his celebration after dismissing Priyansh Arya of Punjab Kings.
Penalised again with a 50% match fee deduction and 2 demerit points for repeating the gesture against Naman Dhir of the Mumbai Indians.
These incidents bring his total to three demerit points. Under IPL regulations collecting four to seven demerit points results in a one-match suspension. Another such celebration could therefore sideline him.

Emerging Performer in Debut Season
Despite the controversies Rathi has been a valuable asset for LSG. Bought for Rs 30 lakh from Delhi he has claimed seven wickets in five matches contributing significantly to LSGs three victories so far. The team currently sits fourth on the points table with six points.
In Tuesdays match LSG posted a commanding 238/3 their second-highest IPL total. While batters like Nicholas Pooran 87 and Mitchell Marsh 81 dominated headlines Rathi made his mark with both the ball and his creative restraint.

What Lies Ahead
LSGs next encounter is against the Gujarat Titans on April 12. If Rathi plays his conduct will be closely monitored. A fourth demerit point would rule him out of subsequent matches a risk his team might not afford given his current form.
Meanwhile as discussions continue on how celebrations are policed in the IPL former cricketer Simon Doull has voiced support for Rathi criticising the perceived double standards. quotSenior players have done worse without repercussionsquot Doull noted.
With no official update yet from the BCCI fans and analysts alike will be watching to see if Rathi keeps his emotions in check or finds a new creative way to celebrate that stays within the rules.
