IPL 2025: MS Dhoni 12 Sixes Away From Joining Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma In Elite List
@Source: news18.com
Former India captain and Chennai Super Kings’ star player MS Dhoni needs 12 sixes to join Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma in an elite list, as he will become just the third Indian behind the duo to hit 350 sixes in T20 cricket, with the former CSK skipper currently stationed at 338.
Dhoni has often lit up past editions of the Indian Premier League with his big-hitting skills by smacking powerful sixes.
Dhoni, who likes to finish the match for his team, comes in the final overs of the match and does the finishing job more often than not.
Despite batting in the lower middle order, Dhoni is set to join Kohli and Rohit in the elite list.
The top position is occupied by opener Rohit with 525 sixes, while Kohli is at number 2 with 416.
If Dhoni manages to smack 12 sixes before Suryakumar Yadav (343), he will become the third Indian to the milestone, whereas if the latter achieves the feat before Dhoni, the former India captain can be fourth.
Dhoni, who has featured in 265 IPL games till now, has amassed 5243 runs at an average of 39.12 and a strike rate of 137.46, whereas his numbers in T20Is are 1617 runs in 98 games at an average of 37.6.
Meanwhile, Dhoni wasn’t quite convinced about the requirement for the Impact Player rule when it was first introduced in the Indian Premier League but now sees it as a part of T20s’ evolution.
Dhoni, who remains a talismanic figure for the Chennai Super Kings despite relinquishing leadership in 2024, said that he doesn’t consider himself an Impact Player, as he remains the first-choice wicketkeeper of his team.
“When this rule was implemented, I felt it wasn’t needed at that time. In a way, it helps me, but at the same time, it doesn’t. I still do my wicket-keeping, so I am not an impact player,” Dhoni said while speaking on JioHotstar.
The former India captain will be in action when Chennai take on the Royal Challengers Bengaluru in a classic Dhoni vs Kohli clash at home on Friday. Against RCB, the veteran cricketer has scored 849 runs in 606 balls at an average of 38.6 and a strike rate of 140.1.
