IPL 2025: PBKS-DC Clash To Be Replayed Upon Restart; BCCI Urges Players To Stay Prepared: Report
@Source: news18.com
In the wake of rising tensions between India and Pakistan, the BCCI was forced to take swift action and ended up suspending the 18th edition of the IPL (IPL 2025) for a week’s time, with immediate effect.
Amid the uncertainty around the country, the cricketing board, though, stays highly confident that the league shall restart exactly in a week, reportedly urging players to stay prepared.
The future of the 2025 season of the IPL was thrown into question after the IPL 2025 match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals was abandoned midway in Dharamsala on Thursday, due to air raid alerts in nearby regions of Jammu and Pathankot.
Following the abandonment of the game, the players and staff were quickly moved from Dharamshala to the national Capital, New Delhi, on a train as the Railways ministry acted swiftly to help.
BCCI arranged an emergency meeting on Friday morning to decide on the tournament’s future, stating they are now in consultations with ‘relevant authorities and stakeholders’.
“The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to suspend the remainder of the ongoing TATA IPL 2025 with immediate effect for one week. Further updates regarding the new schedule and venues of the tournament will be announced in due course after a comprehensive assessment of the situation in consultation with relevant authorities and stakeholders,” BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia said in a statement.
As per the Indian Express, all the IPL franchises were in agreement over sending their overseas players home, in the midst of all the uncertainty, for obvious security reasons. Still, the BCCI has put in a strong word, urging all teams’ players and staff to be ready to return to action within exactly one week.
Another interesting development that was mentioned was regarding the resumption of the league.
The PBKS-DC match, which was abandoned, shall reportedly be replayed upon resuming the league yet again, although the BCCI now faces a logistical challenge to wrap up the tournament within a two-week window.
It has also been reported that the proposed venues in case of a resumption would likely be all cities in the Southern part of the country — Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam, and Kolkata — far from the LoC, making it easier to convince the overseas players to return.
