Rotterdam: Ireland Women registered a commanding 179-run victory over Germany Women in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Europe Qualifier Division 1 match on Sunday, powered by a record-breaking century from Amy Hunter.
Hunter’s record century leads Ireland
Opting to bat first at the Hazelaarweg Stadium, Ireland posted their highest-ever T20 International total of 223/1. Opening batter Amy Hunter stole the show with an unbeaten 114 off 67 deliveries, hitting 15 fours and 3 sixes. Partnering her, Leah Paul contributed a quickfire 62* from 33 balls as the pair dominated the German bowling attack throughout the innings.
German chase collapses under pressure
Chasing a daunting target, Germany struggled from the outset, losing early wickets and never recovering. The side was restricted to just 44/8 in their allotted 20 overs. Leah Paul shone with the ball as well, taking 2 wickets for just 4 runs, while skipper Laura Delany claimed 2/15.
Dominance in the qualifiers
This emphatic win keeps Ireland firmly in contention for a top-two finish in the Europe Division 1 Qualifier, which would secure them a spot in the Global Qualifier for the 2026 Women’s T20 World Cup. Ireland’s all-round performance highlighted their growing strength in international women’s cricket.
With Hunter’s sensational century and a comprehensive bowling display, Ireland showcased their credentials as favourites to progress. Germany, on the other hand, will need to regroup quickly to remain competitive in the tournament.
