Ireland team named for 'A' clash with England as Mike Prendergast goes with four Test starters
@Source: irishmirror.ie
Mike Prendergast has included five players with Test experience in his Ireland 'A' matchday squad to face England 'A' at Ashton Gate in Bristol on Sunday (1pm). Skipper Max Deegan, along with No. 10 Ciarán Frawley, Shane Daly, Oli Jager and Harry Byrne, have all played at senior international level. Of the quintet only Byrne, who is completing a successful three-month spell at Bristol Bears, is not a starter. Deegan is joined in the back row alongside Alex Kendellen, who was Emerging Ireland's captain on their South Africa tour in the autumn, and Sean Jansen. Paul O'Connell's nephew Evan, another graduate of the Emerging Ireland set-up, and Darragh Murray are in the second row. Tom O'Toole - who would have been in the Six Nations squad but for suspension - returned for Ulster last week and has been named at loosehead, with Diarmuid Barron at hooker and Jack Aungier - a late call-up for the Six Nations game in Edinburgh - at tighthead. In the backline, Daly is at full-back with Tommy O'Brien and Shayne Bolton on the wings, while Hugh Gavin and Jude Postlethwaite are the centre partnership. Frawley starts at out-half alongside scrum-half Nathan Doak, who was called into the squad this week after Ben Murphy was ruled out through injury. Stephen Smyth, Paddy McCarthy, Jager, Conor O’Tighearnaigh, Alex Soroka and Brian Gleeson are the forward bench options, with scrum-half Fintan Gunne and Byrne completing the Match Day 23. "There has been a good edge to training this week and I’ve been really impressed by the application of the squad since meeting up on Monday," said Prendergast. "It’s an exciting challenge merging players from all four provinces for a one-off game and we know that we are facing a real test against an England side who have a lot of Premiership experience in their ranks. "Every time you get to pull on the green jersey it’s a special moment and there are some players who have experience of being involved in the senior international set-up before. "With a summer tour to Georgia and Portugal coming up, Sunday presents another chance to impress. The players are primed and ready to go."
