Is Glen Powell Playing The Iconic Spy In New James Bond Film? He Says…
@Source: news18.com
Glen Powell is totally against playing the world-famous spy James Bond. Known for his stint in Tom Cruise’s Top Gun: Maverick and Anyone But You starring Sydney Sweeney, the 36-year-old Hollywood actor has made it clear that he has no interest in stepping into the shoes of the spy. Obviously, he has a solid reason behind doing so.
“I’m Texan. A Texan should not play James Bond,” Glen told The Hollywood Reporter in a new cover story related to his upcoming film Chad Powers. “My family and I joke around, I can play Jimmy Bond, but I should not be playing James Bond,” he added.
Glen Powell Says ‘An Authentic Brit’ Must Star As James Bond
The iconic MI6 agent, James Bond, who has been adapted for the big screen from Ian Fleming’s spy novels, has been played by either English or Irish actors. Most recently, Hollywood actor Daniel Craig portrayed the spy on the screen. Glen Powell recommended that an English actor be cast as James Bond. He said, “Get an authentic Brit for that job. That’s who belongs in that tuxedo.”
The Anyone But You actor’s reaction nearly two months after Amazon MGM Studios confirmed that Oscar-nominated director Denis Villeneuve, who is known for his work in the Dune movies, will direct the next James Bond film. It will be the first movie in the spy thriller series under the studio since Amazon acquired MGM in 2022 and the 26th film in the James Bond franchise, following 2021’s No Time To Die, which was Daniel Craig’s last appearance as the titular character. There are rumours that Tom Holland, Jacob Elordi or Harris Dickinson might star as the next James Bond, although there has been no official confirmation.
What’s Next For Glen Powell?
While a James Bond film is definitely not in his future, Glen Powell has plenty on his plate. He is set to appear in the sports comedy Chad Powers, a series which will follow the life of a disgraced footballer who goes undercover. Based on a character by producer Eli Manning, the show is scheduled to premiere on Hulu on September 30. The actor told the aforementioned outlet that his role in the series is “the hardest character” he has ever played.
He will also appear in The Running Man, a remake of the 1987 film starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. Directed by Edgar Wright, the black comedy thriller dystopian action thriller film will hit the theatres on November 14. Apart from this, he also has the black comedy thriller film Huntington in the pipeline. Starring Margaret Qualley and Ed Harris, the film will be directed by John Patton Ford.
