Pep Guardiola has had a tough season as Manchester City boss (Picture: Getty Images) Manchester City host Leicester City in the Premier League on Wednesday night as they look to climb into the top four of the table. It has been a very difficult season for the champions, unable to mount any serious defence of the trophy they have won for four seasons on the spin. They also fell early in the Champions League and League Cup, but do still have hopes of lifting the FA Cup and saving the season to some extent. Pep Guardiola will also be desperate to secure a top four finish, which is far from guaranteed as they sit fifth ahead of Wednesday night’s action. Leicester are not quite yet dead and buried but they look doomed for relegation as they are 12 points adrift of safety. The Foxes have lost their last seven matches in all competitions as Ruud van Nistelrooy continues to struggle to have much of an impact at all. City have won their last five meetings with Leicester, with the Foxes’ last victory coming in the Community Shield in 2021. Guardiola confirmed the bad news that Haaland is sidelined for a number of weeks due to an ankle problem. ‘They told me the doctors between five to seven weeks,’ Guardiola told reporters on Tuesday. ‘So hopefully the end of the season and by the Club World Cup he will be ready. ‘Sometimes there are years when these kinds of things happen. It happened all season. ‘I would say that it could have been different if it was the end of the season [before the Club World Cup]. ‘So with all the injuries we have had this season, I’m so sorry for them and for Erling as well. [I wish him] a good recovery, as speedy as possible, then come back.’ Leicester are actually in pretty good shape fitness-wise, with only Issahaku Fatawu sidelined.
