Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Ishaq Dar, arrived in New York on July 21 for a week-long official visit lasting until July 28. He will serve in his capacity as President of the UN Security Council, during which he is expected to make pivotal decisions and lead global dialogues on conflict resolution.
Dar’s agenda includes leading multi-nation signature events at UN headquarters. He is scheduled to meet senior diplomats and world leaders in both New York and Washington, D.C., where discussions will focus on expanding Pakistan’s diplomatic relations and exploring new avenues for cooperation.
A highlight of his visit will be the International Conference on the Two-State Solution, co-hosted by Saudi Arabia and France. At this high-profile summit, Dar is set to advocate for renewed international support for Palestinian statehood, emphasizing the urgency of a peaceful resolution.
In addition, Dar will chair a UN Security Council open debate on “Promoting International Peace and Security through Multilateralism and Peaceful Settlement of Disputes.” He will also lead the quarterly UNSC session on “The Situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian Question,” underlining Pakistan’s long-standing commitment to dialogue and consensus-driven solutions.
Dar will preside over a special UNSC briefing aimed at deepening cooperation between the United Nations and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). In a bid to bolster global peace efforts, this meeting will explore ways to enhance institutional coordination, particularly on humanitarian and security issues affecting the Muslim world.
