Israeli Raids in Gaza Leave Journalists Dead and Wounded

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Israel attacked tents outside two major hospitals in the Gaza Strip on Sunday night. According to medical officials on Monday, April 7, 2025, the attack killed at least two people, including a local journalist, and injured nine others, including six journalists.As reported by Arab News, local hospitals also reported that fifteen other people were killed in separate attacks across the region.The attack on media tents outside the Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis around 2 a.m. burned the tent, killing Yousef Al-Faqawi, a journalist for the Palestine Today TV station, and another man, according to the hospital. Meanwhile, six other journalists were injured in the attack.Israeli military said they had targeted a Hamas militant, without providing further information. Israel claimed that they were trying to avoid harming civilians and blamed Hamas for their deaths because the Hamas militants were in residential areas.Israel also attacked the tents outside the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in downtown Deir Al-Balah, injuring three people. The Nasser Hospital stated that it had received thirteen other bodies, including six women and four children, from separate attacks the previous night. Additionally, the Al-Aqsa Hospital stated that two people were killed and three others were injured in an attack on a house in Deir Al-Balah.Israel has carried out a wave of attacks in Gaza and ground forces have established a new military zone since the ceasefire with Hamas ended last month. Israel has banned the import of food, fuel, medicine, and humanitarian aid since early March.Thousands of people have taken refuge in tents set up within hospital compounds during the 18-month war, assuming that Israel would not target them.Israel has raided hospitals on several occasions. They have accused Hamas of using them for military purposes. These allegations have been denied by hospital staff.The war began when Hamas-led militants attacked Israel on October 7, 2023, hitting military bases and farming communities, killing about 1,200 people, mostly civilians. They kidnapped 251 people, and are still holding 59 prisoners-24 of whom are believed to be still alive-after most of the rest were released through ceasefires or other agreements.Israel has pledged to continue increasing military pressure until Hamas releases the remaining hostages, lays down their arms, and leaves the area.Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that he would implement U.S. President Donald Trump's proposal to resettle most of the Gaza population to other countries through what the Israeli leader referred to as 'voluntary emigration.'Palestinian citizens stated that they did not want to leave their homeland. Human rights experts have warned that implementing Trump's proposal is likely to result in a mass expulsion that violates international law.Netanyahu met with Trump in Washington earlier this week to discuss Gaza and other issues.According to the Gaza Health Ministry, Israel's military attacks have killed more than 50,000 Palestinian citizens, mostly women and children, without specifying how many of them were militants or civilians.
