India’s T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav is playing for the Mumbai Indians in the ongoing 2025 edition of the Indian Premier League. The 34-year-old right-handed batter was on fire for the Hardik Pandya-led side on Sunday (April 20) at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. After coming to bat at No. 3 in the 177-run chase against Chennai Super Kings, he faced 30 balls and, with the help of six fours and five sixes, scored 68 runs. Surya added 114 runs for the second wicket with Rohit Sharma and helped MI chase down the target in 15.4 overs for the loss of only one wicket.
Like Surya, Rohit was also on fire for MI on Sunday, and he remained unbeaten on 76 runs from 45 balls. During his stay at the crease, Rohit hammered four fours and six sixes, and in the process, he also moved to the No. 2 position in the list of leading run-getters in the IPL.
Like every other MI fan, Surya was also impressed with Rohit’s batting show on Sunday in the second Clásico of the ongoing season, and he praised his long-time India and MI teammate by saying that his performance was a sigh of relief.
“The way he batted from the other end and the way the tournament was going for him – that speaks volumes for him. He’s been the most experienced player in this format, for India, for us, and the way he delivered in an important game – I think it was a sigh of relief,” Surya said in a video shared by IPL on Instagram.

Rohit, who is MI’s most capped player and all-time leading run getter in the IPL, was horribly out of form in this year’s tournament, but in the match between the two most successful teams in IPL history, the 37-year-old right-handed batter showed his class and sealed a big win for Mumbai.
For his outstanding performance, Rohit won the Player of the Match award as well, and it helped him become the first Indian player in IPL history to win 20 POTM awards. The fifty on Sunday was Rohit’s ninth 50-plus in the world’s richest franchise cricket league against the Chennai-based franchise.
