ITV announce new Sam Thompson show ahead of 'biggest ever' Soccer Aid in Manchester

ITV have announced a new Sam Thompson show ahead of what they’re calling the ‘biggest ever’ Soccer Aid, set to be held in Manchester. The charity football match, which raises funds for UNICEF returns on Sunday, June 15, with football legends and other famous faces taking part. This year’s line-up for the event at Manchester United’s Old Trafford includes Tyson Fury, Wayne Rooney , Gary Neville , Vicki McClure, Sir Mo Farah, Harry Redknapp, Tom Grennan, Denise Lewis, Jill Scott, Nadia Nadim and many more. On Wednesday morning (May 28), ITV confirmed two weeks of programming for the event that will culminate with Soccer Aid for UNICEF’s Super Saturday. Leading the reveal is Sam Thompson’s Match Ball Mission, a documentary about the I’m A Celebrity winner embarking on an epic 260-mile challenge to deliver the Soccer Aid for UNICEF match ball from Stamford Bridge, London, to the home of this year’s match at Old Trafford. Seeking to raise vital funds for UNICEF’s work for children globally, the special will see Sam run and cycle his way across the country, stopping off at iconic stadiums, while celebrity supporters cheer him on along the way. With the documentary airing at 9pm on ITV1 and ITVX on Friday, June 13, Sam will be providing updates on his five-day challenge all week on This Morning from Monday, June 2. ITV’s Super Saturday will begin on June 7, with James Martin’s Saturday Morning Special at 9.30am. The TV chef will be joined by Soccer Aid coach Harry Redknapp. At 7.15pm, Alex Brooker will take on the Banker in Deal or No Deal for Soccer Aid, with Jill Scott and Emmett J. Scanlan among those behind the iconic boxes. An hour later will see Soccer Aid legend Lee Mack front the very first The 1% Club for Soccer Aid, including 100 famous faces in the audience such as Paddy McGuinness, Iain Stirling, Amber Gill, Chris Hughes, Stuart Pearce, Ellen White, Karen Carney and Tommy Fury . Other shows airing over the course of the week include Tenable for Soccer Aid (3pm, Wednesday June 11), Tipping Point for Soccer Aid (4pm from Wednesday, June 11, to Friday, June 13), The Chase for Soccer Aid (5pm from Wednesday, June 11, to Friday, June 13), Riddiculous for Soccer Aid (3pm, Friday, June 13) and Who Wants to be a Millionaire for Soccer Aid (10.45pm on Thursday June, 12, and Friday June 13). Kevin O’Brien, ITV Entertainment Commissioning Editor, said: “We are incredibly proud here at ITV of our partnership with UNICEF UK since the inception of Soccer Aid for UNICEF back in 2006. “This year ITV will showcase its biggest Soccer Aid for UNICEF programming line-up ever as we countdown to matchday, including a very special documentary capturing Sam Thompson’s unbelievable 260-mile endurance challenge.” Soccer Aid for UNICEF will air at 6pm on ITV1, ITVX, STV and STV player, presented by Alex Scott and Dermot O’Leary.
