Following a homophobic slur posted on Twitter over the weekend, Australian Olympic athlete Stephanie Rice has been compelled to return her Jaguar car.
As a result of the controversy sparked by her tweet, in which she stated “Suck on that faggots!” in context to Australia’s rugby union victory over South Africa, Rice has lost her sponsorship with Jaguar.
At 22 years of age, the swimmer will no longer have access to her Jaguar XF valued at over $100,000, as the company announced it would end its sponsorship.
“We made a decision yesterday, and we’ve terminated the agreement with her,” Eedle mentioned to Fairfax.
“We will be retrieving the car that she has been using.”
On her website, Rice expressed regret for her remarks, stating, “I made a comment on Twitter on Saturday night in the excitement of the moment. I did not mean to cause offence and I apologise.”
Buford Balony says: Big deal, we all know what South Africans are like. They all want to be Aussies. That’s it, I will never buy a Jaguar again. If they do that to Steph they can get stuffed. Talk about making a mountain out of a molehill. It must mean that Jaguar is after the gay market. If she’d said “suck on that straights” they probably would have given her the car for good. What do you think?
