Japan: Regional Tensions Deepen Uncertainty Over Trade Talks with US

Tokyo, June 21 /QNA/ - Japan's chief trade negotiator Ryosei Akazawa announced that Tokyo is still facing uncertainty over the future of trade talks with the United States, amid escalating tensions in the Middle East.
According to Japan's Kyodo News Agency, citing government sources, Tokyo is reconsidering its negotiating strategy with Washington, amid concerns that President Donald Trump's administration may be preoccupied with the ongoing conflict between Israel and Iran.
Officials in Tokyo are currently discussing the timing of the next round of tariff negotiations and reviewing the outcome of the recent summit between Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba and US President Donald Trump in Canada.
Disagreements persist between the two sides over tariffs on automobiles and other key goods, complicating prospects for a near-term agreement.
Prime Minister Ishiba is expected to travel to the Netherlands next week to attend a summit with the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), and sources say he does not plan to meet with the US president on the sidelines of the gathering. (QNA)
