World No. 1 Test bowler Jasprit Bumrah is leading India’s bowling attack in the third Test against England. In the match taking place at Lord’s in London, Bumrah opened his wicket account on Thursday (July 10) by dismissing world No. 1 Test batter Harry Brook (11 runs), and then on Friday, he picked up three wickets in the morning session. On Day 2 of the Lord’s Test, Bumrah first removed Ben Stokes. The England Test captain was clean bowled by Bumrah on the second ball of the 86th over, and then on the first ball of his next over (the 88th of England’s first innings), he breached Joe Root’s defence and shattered his stumps. Root, who is England’s leading run getter in Test cricket, scored 104 runs from 199 balls with the help of 10 fours. The wicket of Root on Friday helped Bumrah equal Pat Cummins’ record of dismissing Root 11 times in Test cricket. No other bowlers in the world have picked up Root’s wicket more times than Bumrah and Cummins now. Australia’s Josh Hazlewood is second on the list with 10. Root vs Bumrah in Tests Dismissals: 11 Bowlers to dismiss Joe Root most times in Tests Jasprit Bumrah (India) – 11 Pat Cummins (Australia) – 11 Josh Hazlewood (Australia) – 10 Nathan Lyon (Australia) – 9 Ravindra Jadeja (India) – 8 In the first innings of the first India-England Test as well, Bumrah picked Root’s wicket. In that match, Root was caught in the slips by Karun Nair. After taking Root’s wicket, Bumrah on the next ball removed Chris Woakes for a golden duck. The English bowling all-rounder, who has a Test century to his name against India at Lord’s, was caught behind by Dhruv Jurel. If Bumrah manages to take one more wicket in the first innings, then he will complete his 13th five-wicket haul in Tests for India away from home, and it will help him break Kapil Dev’s record of most five-wicket hauls for India in Tests away from home. As of now, both Bumrah and Kapil have 12 five-wicket hauls each to their name in Tests away from home. The fifth wicket of the first innings of Lord’s Test will also help Bumrah equal Ishant Sharma’s record of taking 48 wickets for India in Test matches played against England in England. No Indian has dismissed more English batters in Tests played in England than Ishant.
