Nicknames can be a sign of affection — or a terrible miscalculation. Just ask Jenna Bush Hager's high school boyfriend, who made a gutsy choice when addressing her dad, former President George W. Bush.On the Monday, February 17 episode of Today with Jenna & Friends, the 43-year-old host shared that an old flame once greeted her father with a moniker that was a little too bold."I had a boyfriend in high school who called my dad 'Big George' once," Bush Hager told NBC's Willie Geist. His reaction? Pure shock. "He did? How long did that last?" Geist wondered. The New York Times bestselling author admitted the guy stuck around "a long time because he was handsome," but even in the moment, she knew it wasn't a great move. "You know when you're in those moments — it only works when you're young, because when you're in those moments, you're like, 'Oh god, this is not good.' But you can somewhat brush it over."As for how the retired POTUS took it? "He turned red," Bush Hager revealed.Without missing a beat, Geist, 49, pointed out the added layer of awkwardness. "Your dad was also governor at that time. He was governor of Texas and some teenager is going, 'What's up, Big George?' I'm impressed he lasted."The former first daughter didn't argue. "It was not good," she said. This isn't the first time Bush Hager has reflected on the nickname. Back in 2020, she shared the same story on Today with Hoda & Jenna, cracking up then-cohost Hoda Kotb in the process."I actually had a boyfriend once call my dad 'Big George,'" the journalist said at the time, mimicking her dad's stunned reaction. Kotb, 60, gasped, "He did not!"Bush Hager admitted the moment was a little mortifying. "That's [not] how we were raised," she explained, adding that even as an adult, she struggled to call her godmother by her first name. After her high school days, the TV personality met Henry Hager while he was working on her father's 2004 reelection campaign. The two tied the knot in May 2008 and now share three kids: daughters Mila, 11, and Poppy, 8, and son Hal, 5.
