Jim Goodwin admits Dundee Utd are dead on their feet so can't complain about Aberdeen draw

Gutted Jim Goodwin claimed it was a major kick in the teeth as Dundee United lost two stoppage time points at Aberdeen felt like a defeat. United had gone 2-0 up, through Vicko Sevelj and Sam Dalby, before the Dons earned a point through a Kevin Nisbet double - the second came in the 91st minute. The manner of the leveller was a blow to United but Goodwin admitted over the piece that Aberdeen were deserving of their point. Goodwin said: “In normal circumstances a point away from home is always a good one but in the circumstances, losing a goal late on makes it a major kick in the teeth. It does when you lose the equaliser in the 91st minute like we did, having defended the box all afternoon. I thought our centre halves were outstanding. I can’t have too many complaints about the scoreline, Aberdeen were excellent in the second half and you see the strength they have. “Jimmy (Thelin) had to gamble, got a lot of creative players and pace on the pitch. They penned us back. We coped with it for the majority of the half but we just couldn’t see it through to the end.” United had a big chance through sub Kai Fotheringham’s header to make it 3-1 and then the Dons went up the park and got their point. Goodwin stated: “More often than not you’d expect Kai to hit the target, he’s got a knack of getting in good positions like that. “But I can’t be too critical of the players, three games in a week is tough and I thought we looked like we ran out of energy. Credit to Jimmy, the positive changes he made in the second half paid off.” United sit in fifth place behind Aberdeen and Hibs. Two points are between the three teams. Goodwin reckons three games in the space of eight days had also left his team on its knees. The beat Motherwell, controversially lost to Hibs and then this one left his side running on fumes at the end. It also didn’t help that he lost Declan Gallagher through injury. He went off with a pelvic issue and will now be assessed. Midfielder Craig Sibbald also made his first start since October because United were without the likes of Ross Docherty, Louis Moult and Will Ferry. The United boss claimed: “Our high press worked in the first half, we were positive in the turnovers and scored two really good goals from well-worked set plays. The three games in a week is a really tough ask for this group given how low we are in numbers. We have players missing, we asked Craig Sibbald to start when he’s not really ready for that but knew we’d only get an hour out of him."
